Engraving is a printing process used to give more importance to specific words. Engraving can be done manually through a special metal dye or achieved with laser printing by burning the area of the letters. Engraving gives a debossed effect to lettering and graphics, unlike embossing which requires a ton of pressure from the back of the page. Engraving can look more beautiful on textured paper and should be done on cardstock. Thin paper engraving is uncommon because it does not give enough debossed effect and remains unnoticed. Moreover, engraved areas can also be printed into any color, and foiling can be applied at the same time while engraving.
