It is basically a hard-raised metal sheet similar to a rubber stamp. For getting the desired effect, it is pressed firmly against the thick paper and an engraved effect comes into being.
In modern commercial printing, it is called typographic process printing used on business cards, invitation cards, or even notebook titles. Nowadays, this technique is used for leather bags, jackets, racine-based shoes, and many other racine products.
