It is not really important if you have the most unique signage on the street. The most important thing in signage is readablility. If it is not readable from the distance then it may not give the directions for the shop to new customers and you may miss a good chunk of potention customers to your store unless the place is already well known.
Signage should solve three purpose and these are promotion, identification and information. Before designing you should pay more attention to readablility as you may know that signs can easily be unnoticed if they do not designed correctly. You should design a sign according to the surroundings. If the building is dark and the street is narrow then use white and bring colors. If the surrounding is lightish and the roads are widened then you may use darker designs and even the structure of signage.
