Oil paints need to be mixed after opening the cap, they should be either mixed with water or linseed oil. Linseed can make the tube paint thin and it stays wet longer for larger canvases painting. On the other hand, water can make the paint dry much more quickly and the painter needs to do some time management. Paint in the tube can also dry if left open so the cap of the tube should be closed instantly after dispensing the paint. When painting with oil three rules should be considered first one is fat layers of paint over lean, second one would be thick over thin paint and the most important one is slow-drying over fast drying. This should be followed to get the best result.
