A guitar pick or mandolin pick is used to pluck or strum the stringed instrument. It is used for all types of chordophones (instruments with strings). Many instrumentalists do not like to use picks as they use bare fingers or grow nails to a certain size to help pluck the strings. Pick is available in plastic form as well as wooden form. For beginners, it is recommended to use plastic picks as they provide a good sound as compared to any other material. One more thing to notice here is that picks should be thinner and more flexible because they make the strumming easier. Make sure to ask for gauge picks whenever you would like to buy a pick and it should be .75mm. Picks are also known as plectrum.
