As a rule of thumb, every car owner should change the engine oil every 3000 miles. These days, high-quality lubricants along with modern car engines are recommended for 5000 to even 7000 miles unless the oil starts changing its original color and there is less sticky oil present. You can check it every 3000 miles to see if the engine oil still has lubrication by touching the oil and rubbing it with fingers. New cars usually do not lose oil. As the cars get older engine oil starts to harden and shrink from the plasticizers and usually burns the oil though it is not visible. It also happens with faulty engine parts or at times unfitting installation.
