A ball pen and a pencil are both must-haves for students. I still take notes using a ball pen. However, when I am marking anything in my textbook, I use a clutch pencil because if there is any need to remove I can use an eraser. A ballpoint pen does not remove like a pencil from the paper. You may need a white marker especially designed for ballpoint pens to hide the writing.
Ballpoint pens are used as permanent pens because they disperse permanent ink, and there is no way to remove it from the paper. It would be a good idea to make a ballpoint pen with an ink that can be used to remove the writing, but then the importance of permanency becomes useless. Ball pens usually go a long way as they carry a special think oil based ink that takes months to fade, and they are cheap as dirt. This is why students prefer them and use them every day for note-taking.
